Sinnoh (Generation 4) Pokémon in Pokémon GO

More than any other region, Sinnoh added new evolutions to Pokémon you may already own. Generation 4 runs from Turtwig to Arceus, National Pokédex numbers #387 to #493, and a good share of those 107 species are new final stages for Pokémon from earlier generations. The game handles most of those evolutions with a dedicated item, the Sinnoh Stone, which is why a lot of older Pokémon sitting in your storage deserve a second look.

The Sinnoh Stone

You need one Sinnoh Stone, plus the usual candy, to evolve each of the older species below into its Generation 4 evolution. Sinnoh Stones are mostly earned through play rather than bought, with battle rewards and research rewards having been the usual sources, so save them for the evolution you want most.

Tips for spending a Sinnoh Stone

• Stones are scarce, so evolve your best copy: evolution keeps a Pokémon's appraisal, and a shiny or Lucky Pokémon stays shiny or Lucky.
• Tap Evolve and read what it asks for before committing; candy costs differ between species and requirements are occasionally changed.
• Storage search narrows the field: 387-493 shows the Sinnoh species you already own, including any stone evolutions, and kirlia&male or snorunt&female finds the Kirlia and Snorunt that can take a stone. Both are Hoenn Pokémon, and our Hoenn guide covers their other evolutions.

Evolutions that use a Lure Module

You have to be in range of a PokéStop with the right lure running, and it doesn't need to be your own lure. Other things to know about Sinnoh species

• Burmy wears one of three cloaks (Plant, Sandy or Trash). A female Burmy evolves into Wormadam with the same cloak; a male evolves into Mothim.
• Combee: only females evolve, into Vespiquen.
• Shellos and Gastrodon come in West Sea and East Sea forms, which have usually been split between the Western and Eastern Hemispheres, so trading is the usual way to own both.
• Rotom (Electric/Ghost) has appliance forms (Heat, Wash, Frost, Fan and Mow) that swap its second type for Fire, Water, Ice, Flying or Grass. Which forms can be caught in GO has varied, so check the in-game Pokédex.
• Regional exclusives such as Pachirisu, Chatot and Carnivine have been tied to particular parts of the world, and the exact areas can change.
• New baby Pokémon arrived with Sinnoh, including Munchlax, Happiny, Bonsly, Mime Jr., Budew and Chingling. They are pre-evolutions of older species and have mostly come from eggs.
• Starters and pseudo-legendary: Turtwig ends as Torterra (Grass/Ground), Chimchar as Infernape (Fire/Fighting) and Piplup as Empoleon (Water/Steel). Gible's line ends in Garchomp (Dragon/Ground).
